Advantages of Gear Differential include - Longer time between rebuilds (if assembled properly, time between rebuilds may be up to 10 to 30 times longer than most ball diffs). Using the Gear Diff, you can run it really loose (running thinner oil) without having to worry about diff slippages). Easily duplicate diff setups after rebuild or assemble multiple units to identical setups when using the same differential oils.
